FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE ARE SESSIONS HELD?

Newborn sessions are held in my home studio in Merrick, Long Island. I have a studio equipped with lighting, temperature controlled and all the props needed for your session. Maternity sessions can be held in my studio or an outdoor location on Long Island. Family sessions are only held at an outdoor location in Queens or Long Island. I can travel outside this region for an additional fee.

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY MATERNITY SESSION?

Maternity sessions are best held between 30-36 weeks into your pregnancy. During this stage your belly has a beautiful shape and you should be feeling great, yet it is generally early enough that you won’t go into labor before having your session.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION?

The ideal time for a newborn session is between 7-15 days after birth. In order to ensure that you get an appointment time within that very short notice you should book your newborn photography session while you are still pregnant, at least 1-2 months in advance. As soon as your baby is born you should contact me ASAP to firm up a date within those first couple of weeks. After the first couple of weeks babies tend to become more and more alert and have much longer periods of awake time making it much more difficult to capture those beautiful poses.

Please contact me even if you missed that 2 week window, I love to photograph babies and I will never say no to new parents.

HOW LONG DOES A SESSION TAKE?

I do not rush you and make sure you enjoy every moment of your time here! A maternity session will last between 1-1.5 hours. A family session will last between 1-2 hours. A newborn session tends to take a little longer, to allow plenty of time for feeding and settling baby. You can expect your newborn session to last between 3-4 hours. You'll find this time goes very quickly. This is because you will need to feed, and change the baby several times before reaching that optimum sleep. I will take some photographs of the baby awake, but the bulk of my images will be while he or she is asleep.

CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH MY OLDER CHILDREN WITH THE BABY?

Absolutely! Siblings are always welcome, but small children can be unpredictable in a studio environment, so I recommend keeping talk of the photo shoot light without putting pressure on them to smile or sit still. Please keep them rested and calm beforehand if you can and bring some favorite little treats with you. I suggest they come with you for the first hour of your session, then have a relative take them off to do something fun while we continue your session with new baby. My home studio is very small and will be very warm for your newborn which means this is not a fun place for children to stay and sit still. Please let me know if you plan to include your older child(ren) upon booking so I will plan your session around them.

 WHAT SHOULD FAMILY MEMBERS WEAR?

Please keep it simple, light solid colors translate well. Please stay away from distracting prints or lot of text on the clothing.  Choose a color scheme – mix and match colors so that everyone flows and coordinates. Fashions and styles come and go. You want your photos to be timeless, so it is best to aim for more of a classic look and your goal is to have this year’s photographs blend right in.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
